…Even Cooler.  But if you didn’t know this already, it’s not too late for you to redeem yourself by subscribing to his YouTube page.  After all, You’ll want to be the first to know when teleportation is possible in real life using a Wii remote, some optical sensors and a cheap Dell.

Johnny Lee is smarter than you are

If I don’t guess then I won’t know…

March 2, 2008 at 6:52 am (4 ur Brain, Ego, Listen Up, Stupid Stuff)

People often ask why I am called Blue… usually joking “Gee, I wonder what Blue’s favorite color is?” at which point I step in with the obligatory punchline Green“.

Azul - Blue, as a name, is chosen for other people as much as it is chosen for me. Blue as a concept is a cipher that almost anyone can emotionally project their own meaning upon, and that almost every human is familiar with in one form or another.

Голубо - It’s the color of sea and sky. It’s a primary color and a hue most often used in my days as an art student (neither the cheapest nor the most expensive pigments.)

藍色 - Blue is roughly 440–490 nm, and can be described as Cu(H2O)52+

Bleu - It’s a cheese, it’s a music and it’s a feeling. It’s my grand-uncle’s dog, and my good friend’s cat.

파란 - The word blue is of Germanic origin and often describes a kind of glass, which in French just happens to be my last name.

πλε - Blue is what you call an umpire at a baseball game…those bums wearing the blue shirts that you yell at for your team who are not allowed to. (If you don’t like one of my calls please remember to say “Blue, YOU SUCK!” and I’ll reply with a wink.)

Blau - One day, in considering universal names for my Linden account, I started thinking about color’s use as symbol in spirituality, when a song from one of my favorite albums was shuffled to the top….

Now I see the trees are thinning
My eyes see the seashore there
Shimmering, the sea is brimming
Simmer salty air
If I don’t guess then I won’t know…
Now I’ve seen a blue beginning
And I’ve seen a blue ‘the end’
Set the scene for seaward swimming
Dim the stage again
If I don’t guess then I won’t know…
Dream, dream, dreaming of a sound
Scream, scream, screaming underground
It’s green, green, green now I am sure
The mean, mean, meaning is obscure, I know
Now I’ve seen a blue beginning
And I’ve seen a blue ‘the end’
Set the scene, man, seaward swimming
Dim the stage again
If I don’t guess, then I won’t know…oooh I’ll never,
no I’ll never, yes I’ll never know
Dream, dream, dreaming of a sound
Scream, scream, screaming underground
It’s green, green, green now I am sure
The mean, mean, meaning is obscure, I know
Now I go
Now I know

The album Fantasma by Cornelius (the Japanese Beck, they say) has been on my heavy rotation list since it was released in ‘97. The fact that few people I talk to know of it is a CRYIN’ SHAME. I was extremely fortunate in catching the Fantasma tour when it hit Seattle and it was as weird and hilarious and rockin’ and beautifully thoughtful and spiritual as any one evening could be.

It’s one of the reasons I’m a Blue

‘the end’

If you’ve never been, Kevin Kelly has a blog that’s just crammed full of good stuff. This particular post struck me as being especially high in goodness.

Virtual Killed the Flat Avatar

January 31, 2008 at 11:12 pm (Avatar, Listen Up, Stupid Stuff) (, , , )

Sung to the tune of Video Killed the Radio Star

Virtual Killed the Flat Avatar

I heard you on the IRC in Ninety Two.
Then later MSN and AIM and on Yahoo.
I wasn’t 1337 and hadn’t gotten into MOO.

Em-em-oh

They took the credit when they made it all 3D.
Rewritten for the Tolkien nerds as RPG.
And now I understand the profits you can see.

Em-em-oh

I met your Tauren.

Em-em-oh

My Night Elf ganked him.

Virtual killed the flat avatar
Virtual killed the flat avatar

Z-axis came and broke your heart.

Em-ah-em-em-oh

And now we meet here at my crib in Sony Home.
The isometric, it just seems so long ago.
And you remember the chatrooms in Habbo.

Em-em-oh

The networks hate it.

Em-em-oh

User-created.

Virtual killed the flat avatar

On my phone and in my car, we can’t rewind we’re HDR.

Em-ah-em-em-oh

In the office, in the schools. The new state tax on griefing rules.
Metaverse has caused you strife. Put the blame on Second Life.

You are a flat avatar
You are a flat avatar
Virtual killed the flat avatar
Virtual killed the flat avatar
Virtual killed the flat avatar

Inworld Office Hours Revealed!

March 16, 2007 at 5:39 pm (Linden Village)

Yes, after some waffling (Mmmm…waffles) I’ve finally finished my inworld office and would like to welcome main grid residents to stop by on Wednesdays from 4-5pm SLtime when I’ll be available for a multitude of reasons; SL questions, Photoshop help, commiseration re: Trot Nixon leaving the Red Sox (omg!) and more.

See you there :)
